This past Saturday Discovery Kids, our doors at Milton Keynes Christian Centre and welcomed 240 children to have some Easter fun! We’d prepared areas for crafts, face painting; pamper area, bouncy area and so much more.
It was awesome to see children between the ages of 5 and 11 engage with each other laughing, talking, making new friends and helping each other crack the Easter scavenger hunt before going on to play Easter team games, worship together and hear about why Jesus came, died and rose again.
As I sit here and reflect on the weekend I am beyond grateful for the 40 volunteers, both adults and young people, who turned up and made it all happen! I know this event could not have happened without their choice to come and serve. Some arrived at 9am and left after 6pm after we had cleaned and reset the building ready for our Sunday services. In fact many of the volunteers returned the very next day to serve our 3 Discovery Kids Sunday Services.
I truly saw the local body of Christ coming together to make a difference in the life of a child.
‘Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ’. 1 Corinthians 12:12
One of our core values in Discovery Kids is Relationships and I smiled as a saw this so evidently displayed by all the volunteers on Saturday as they welcomed children in, played with them, helped those who needed a little extra TLC to feel secure which enabled children to explore the environment and ultimately feel happy and ready to hear the message of Jesus’ love for them. As a Kids Team we celebrate each and every one of them, thanking them for being there, for seeing and understanding the eternal impact they made on Saturday!
At Elements Conference in June one of the breakout sessions will be digging deeper into “Recruiting, equipping, motivating and keeping volunteers” find out more here.
